My parents are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary today. Since the beginning of their marriage, my dad has made a cup of tea in the morning and served my mom. A great way way to greet the day!
One act of service every day for 60 years has added up to 21,900 cups of tea between husband and wife. 21,900 simple acts that showed someone you loved them add up to something big; in this case, a marriage that has lasted 60 years. Dad told me yesterday, “We’ve had hard times in our marriage but the Lord’s been good." That goodness has been many years of small gestures that make a difference.
We don’t get everything done all at once. Life is best lived, "bahora bahora" as my friends in Rwanda say….. little by little. Nietzche once said, “The essential thing in heaven and earth” is…that there should be a long obedience in the same direction; there thereby results, and has always resulted in the long run, something which has made life worth living.”
Find a small act you can do today. You can actually do today something that moves you a little closer to following your inkling, and to achieving your goal: living your life.
Right now, I’m drinking a cup of our Bukunya Ikawa. It's a coffee from Bukonya that is helping transform a village of hardworking people, one cup at a time.
Thanks Dad & Mom for showing me the way and Happy Anniversary.
Jonathan
