What does it take to get things done? First of all, you have to have a clear goal. Second, you have to have a plan and the right resources. Finally—and most importantly—you have to have people who are willing to do what it takes to get things done.
The goal may be clear, there may be a clear plan, and all the resources may be there, but at times things go wrong. Equipment breaks down and you need people who will do what it takes to get things done.
Two weeks before our biggest event of the year—the Catalyst Conference where we serve 56,000 cups of coffee—our roaster broke down. Daniel, Peter, and I worked hard to get it up and running, and then Daniel, Peter, Robb, and Sarah worked long hours in order to catch up on the roasting manifest. By the end of the week (and a few 16-hour days) the roasting orders were caught up.
